Kalyn was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and lives in New Jersey with her husband and three children. From a young age, Kalyn knew that she wanted to be a teacher. She pursued her passion with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and English from The College of New Jersey. While teaching full time and raising her children, Kalyn graduated in 2019 with her Master's Degree in Leadership and Administration from Georgian Court University in New Jersey.
With nearly 20 years as an educator, Kalyn has taught preschool, first, second, and fourth grades. Most recently, she has served as a basic skills interventionist, working with students in grades K-5 in reading, math, and executive function skills to help ensure success in the classroom. In 2018, Kalyn received the New Jersey Governor's Teacher of the Year award at her K-5 elementary school. She has held several leadership positions, such as, English Language Arts Teacher Leader and Community Engagement Teacher Leader. She is trained in Orton-Gillingham and Fundations by Wilson, both of which programs are a direct, explicit, multisensory approach to teaching literacy.
Kalyn has a kind and patient way when working with children, and has the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. She finds the most reward as a teacher when her students become successful, and importantly, when they show the confidence and pride that comes with their growth and accomplishments.
